JX Nippon Mining & Metals Corporation

Introduction of a New Model Finishing Mill at the Kurami Works

Production capacity being expanded to meet increased demand for advanced foil products

JX Nippon Mining & Metals Corporation (President: Shigeru Oi; “JX Metals”) has decided to introduce a new model finishing mill and degreasing line at its Kurami Works, and to boost production capacity of advanced foil products.

The copper alloy products and other advanced foils fabricated at the Kurami Works are widely used in smartphones and other information and communication devices. The future is likely to see even smaller products and components, smarter cars, and the spread of the Internet of Things (IoT). As a result, the copper alloy products used for in-vehicle parts, sensors and other components will become increasingly thin. In addition, the number of parts used in products is also expected to grow, leading to increased demand for advanced foils.

To meet this demand, JX Metals has decided to install one new model finishing mill and one degreasing line at its Kurami Works, and to expand production capacity, enabling us to further enhance its stable supply of advanced foil products. In addition to use for titanium copper, Corson alloy, and phosphor bronze foil products for connectors, the newly introduced finishing mill is designed for manufacturing rolled copper foil for next-generation batteries and flexible printed circuits, as well as various other products.

JX Metals plans to continue boosting production capability as needed for products with demand growth potential, while endeavoring to maintain a stable supply of products also from the standpoint of business continuity planning (BCP).
