Completion of Nikko Metals Taiwan Co., Ltd. New Longtan Works

Achieves capacity for stable supply of high-quality sputtering targets in Taiwan

Nikko Metals Taiwan Co., Ltd. (“Nikko Metals Taiwan”; head office: Longtan Township, Tao-Yuan, Taiwan [ROC]; General Manager: Masayuki Nakamura), a subsidiary of JX Nippon Mining & Metals Corporation (“JX Nippon Mining & Metals”; head office: Otemachi 2-chome, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; president: Yoshimasa Adachi), has completed construction of a new plant in Longtan Township, Tao-Yuan, Taiwan (“new Longtan Works”) for manufacture of sputtering targets for flat panel displays and for semiconductors. The new facility is scheduled to go into operation in December of this year.

Taiwan continues its growth as one of the world’s leading manufacturing bases, from production of flat panel displays and semiconductors to assembly of electronic devices. In China, too, economic growth fuels the rapid rise of these industries. The new Longtan Works becomes a supply source of sputtering targets to rapidly growing East Asia.

The new Longtan Works sits on a site with total area of around 30,000 m2, including land set aside for future expansion of operations. In addition to manufacturing sputtering targets for flat panel displays, which up to now has been carried out in Nikko Metals Taiwan’s Bade Works, it will be used for the downstream processes of sputtering target manufacturing for semiconductors, and will also have inspection equipment, enabling a full range of operations from manufacturing to marketing and technical service.

The new Longtan Works is located not far from Taipei and is easily accessible, being near both a freeway interchange and airport. It is located, moreover, inside the Longtan Science Park established by the Taiwan government, where it enjoys a well-developed infrastructure along with government services in such areas as disaster prevention and security.

When the new Longtan Works of Nikko Metals Taiwan goes into operation, the JX Nippon Mining & Metals Group will have manufacturing centers for semiconductor sputtering targets in Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, and the United States, and reinforce the business structure from the standpoint of business continuity plan “BCP”. The JX Nippon Mining & Metals Group is committed to enhancing customer services and ensuring a stable supply of sputtering targets.
