JX Nippon Mining & Metals Corporation (President: Seiichi Murayama; hereinafter “the Company”) announces the organizational changes outlined below, effective October 1, 2020, for the purpose of strengthening and enhancing its business administration framework.

 

(1) Establishment of ESG Promotion Department

The ESG Promotion Department is to be established as an independent department responsible for environmental, social, and governance (ESG) matters.  

 

As initiatives aimed at achieving the UN sustainable development goals and creating sustainable societies gain momentum around the world, there is a global trend toward directly linking ESG accomplishments to investor evaluations. To build socially responsible supply chains, the manufacturing industry, in particular, is increasingly required to eliminate procurement risks and ensure transparency. Considering that such social demands will grow even stronger in the future, the Company needs to enhance its organizational ESG responses as a key management priority and engage with ESG from a company-wide perspective.  

 

The Company has implemented various initiatives as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) program, including social contribution and environmental protection activities, and in response to the social demands outlined above, it will further augment its CSR program and take its efforts to a higher level after reorganizing and enhancing them from an ESG perspective.

 

Accordingly, the Company will create an independent department responsible for CSR to establish an organizational unit to oversee ESG efforts in cooperation with other departments. This will further strengthen its ESG initiatives as part of the JX Nippon Mining and Metals Group’s existing CSR activities.

 

(2) Administration & CSR Department Renamed Administration Department

In conjunction with the establishment of the ESG Promotion Department, the Administration & CSR Department will be renamed the Administration Department.
