Complete Switch to Electricity Derived from Renewable Sources at Caserones Copper Mine

JX Nippon Mining & Metals Corporation (Head Office: Toranomon 2-chome, Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: Murayama Seiichi; “the Company”) has concluded a contract with Enel Generación Chile S.A., a Chilean electricity company, for the supply of energy derived from renewable sources (hydropower, wind, solar, etc.) to the Caserones Copper Mine that the Company operates in the Republic of Chile. Supply will begin in January 2021. As a result of this contract, all electricity used at the Caserones Copper Mine will be derived from renewable sources, and CO2 emissions related to electricity usage will be reduced to zero. The JX Nippon Mining & Metals Group is taking various steps to reduce total CO2 emissions as part of its efforts to address climate change. This switch to renewable energy is one such initiative and will enable a sharp reduction in total CO2 emission volumes for the Group as a whole.

As well as making further efforts to reduce CO2 emissions at Group sites, the Company will continue to contribute to achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals through initiatives including development of sustainable, low-environmental-load technologies.
