JX Nippon Mining & Metals Corporation (President: Murayama Seiichi; "the Company") announces the organizational changes outlined below, effective August 1, 2021, for the purpose of strengthening and enhancing its business administration framework.

　

(1) Establishment of the Battery Material & Recycling Promotion Office and Creation of the Battery Materials Group in the Technology Development Center

All duties related to the development of solid-state battery materials carried out by the Thin Film Materials Division will be merged with the LiB Recycling Project Office within the Advanced Technology & Strategy Department in the Technology Group to establish the Battery Material & Recycling Promotion Office. Development of materials for solid-state batteries carried out at the Isohara Works Product Development Center will also be transferred to the Technology Development Center and the Battery Materials Group will be established within the Technology Development Center.

　

Until now, the Company has worked on the development of recycling technologies to achieve "closed-loop recycling" for automotive lithium-ion batteries (LiBs) by utilizing minor metals in used LiBs as raw materials for new automotive LiBs. The Company is also engaging in technology development including the development of materials for solid-state batteries that are expected to be utilized as the next generation of batteries.

　

Now, the Company is building a system to comprehensively advance the development of LiB recycling and materials development while consolidating company resources related to batteries. This will allow the Company to accelerate commercialization and pursue synergy by increasing the quality of recycled materials using knowledge gained from materials development, and ensuring technology development from the perspective of the entire supply chain.
