JX Nippon Mining & Metals Corporation

Strike at the Caserones Copper Mine

On August 10, a strike began at the Caserones copper mine, where SCM Minera Lumina Copper Chile (CEO: Kuroiwa Motohiro; "MLCC"), a subsidiary of JX Nippon Mining & Metals Corporation (President: Murayama Seiichi), operates in the Republic of Chile.

The strike began because a settlement has not been reached in labor agreement negotiations between MLCC and one of the labor unions of MLCC, mainly consisting of mining operators, within the period stipulated by Chilean labor-related laws and regulations. Both sides were discussing an extension of the negotiation period, but the union side decided not to extend the period and to go on strike.

MLCC will endeavor to minimize the effects by continuing operations with employees who do not belong to the union, while maintaining the workplace and the environment secure during the strike. In addition, MLCC will continue to work towards concluding negotiations with the union.
