Tantalum and Niobium Metal Powders

Tantalum and niobium are refractory metals with melting points of 3,017°C and 2,477°C. They are excellent materials for capacitor anodes as they form an extremely thin but dense oxide layer as dielectric.
High-speed data processing in leading-edge semiconductors is made possible by using copper in semiconductors. To prevent copper from diffusing into the semiconducting layers, Ta is used as thin but effective barrier layer.
Due to their high degree of purity and high quality, our tantalum and niobium "High Purity" powders are used in aviation and energy industry applications as alloy additives for corrosion-resistant turbine blades.

Oxides and Hydroxide

High-purity tantalum and niobium oxides enhance the refractive index of specialty lenses for high-end cameras or cameras in parking assistance systems.
Through doping, they also increase the performance of multi-layered ceramic capacitors (MLCCs).
Lithium niobate and lithium tantalate derived from high-purity oxides, are used to manufacture electronic components like surface acoustic wave (SAW) filters which can be applied in mobile devices.
Our niobium hydroxide(Nb(OH)5) is used as niobium precursor for the production of niobium compounds.

Chlorides and Compounds

With our chlorides and compounds powder portfolio, we provide tantalum and niobium powders in a very reactive form. Due to their e.g. piezoelectric properties or high reactivity, they are suitable for wide range of innovative applications. As example: CVD precursors used for the production of microprocessors and memory chips or piezoelectric materials applied in medical equipment for tumor treatment. Moreover, niobium-based piezoceramics are seen as most promising candidates to replace PZT (lead zirconate titanate).

Materials for Additive Manufacturing

Tantalum and Niobium are tough non-precious metals with high melting points, highly corrosion resistant and ductile at elevated temperatures, biocompatible and not allergenic, with excellent chemical resistance. Their high melting points, low coefficient of thermal expansion, and good thermal and electrical conductivity make them inevitable for many high-tech additive manufacturing applications.

Alloy Additives

Owing to its high melting point and excellent oxidation and corrosion resistance, nickel niobium is a preferred component in superalloys used for parts that must withstand high temperatures. Moreover, nickel niobium compensates for high tension stresses as well as shocks caused by vibration and impact. Refining steels with superalloys that contain niobium ensures optimized machine performance and fuel combustion, lower machine maintenance costs and a greater degree of safety. Nickel niobium slows material aging processes and prevents crack formation under thermal stress.
